What’s up Healthy People????

I have been getting a lot of questions on how to start a healthy eating lifestyle.  Well that depends on what type of person you are…..or what characteristics you have when you select the food that you currently eat.  If you are the type of person that does not want to “prepare” or cook food then you fall into the category of (Me?….In a kitchen?…lol) someone else prepares and/or cooks for you. Or you could be in the category of “I don’t eat anything unless I prepare it myself” category. The latter category prepares at least 80% of their meals themselves.  The category that you fall into helps you to determine how  to start going “Raw”.  Either you are going to buy your food from someone or a restaurant (which can be a little expensive) or you are going to take the time to learn how to prepare your food yourself (this is a “lifestyle change ……right?). In the beginning, you can buy from someone until you are sure that this is the lifestyle you want to live.  I suggest sampling as much Raw food as you can and making note of what dishes you like the most. Now on to the detox.

The first thing you want to do when switching to a Raw Food Lifestyle is detox your body. There are several ways you can accomplish this feat. You can detox your body by doing an “herbal detox”, “powder detox” or  a raw “liquid detox”.

With an herbal detox you would select a product that flushes toxins out of your body by taking herbal supplements. This kind of detox can last anywhere from 7 to 30 days. I suggest that you select a product that will detox specific organs in your body (i.e. gall bladder, kidney, liver, lymphatic, lungs, colon etc.) and one that will also purify your blood. There are numerous products that can perform the herbal detox but again it depends on the length (days) and the quality (organs and blood) of the detox that you think you can handle. If you are interested further in this detox just email me jefftherawfoodchef@gmail.com.

There are also some powder supplements that are  good for your body. The powder supplements you want are the products that are Organic, fermented, and dehydrated (heated) less than 115 degrees and contain Superfoods. Superfoods are nutrient dense foods or nutrient packed foods such as Acai, Goji Berries, Ginger, Avocados, Sprouted Food, Sweet Potatoes, Blueberries, Spirliuna, Chlorella etc. foods that are high in nutrients and easily found in powders and can save you a lot of time and money when prepared in a smoothie or with some filtered water.  (Check out http://www.healthylivin.akealife.com for more info.)

Another alternative is to do a raw “liquid fast”. One where you will prepare either Green smoothies and/or juices from whole fruit and produce. One word of caution here, if you juice fruit only…….beware of the high sugar content in fruit.  Fruit can make your blood sugar elevate. I would suggest “blending” and/or juicing vegetables more than fruit. On the subject of blending vs juicing……I like to blend (mix in high speed blender) my fruits and/or vegetables because I get all the fiber that is in the produce. When you juice, most of the fiber goes into the pulp collector! Check my website for the Articles on Drink Your Greens…., and Green Drink Recipe.

Well, we had a couple of Raw and Living Buffet dinners at our house and they have been fabulous. Attached is a picture of the first buffet.

I will be doing my first of many Raw and Living Food Buffet Dinners at my house this Saturday (12-10-11). This dinner is so important to me because it will give people who have either followed me in the Social media or have known me for some years to finally get to “taste” my food! Some of my closest friends have tasted my food and love it! Others have seen pictures of me from when I was 75 pounds heavier and some of them use to go to different events with me where they saw me “pig out” at buffets. Now they look at me and marvel at how slim I look and how much energy that I have attained. However, the most important thing that has happen to me they cannot “see” at all!!!

Not only have I lost 75 pounds within 5 months (almost 3 years ago), I have also gotten rid of diabetes and high blood pressure in just 25 days! This Saturday I will get a chance to explain to people “LIVE” and in person how I did it and how they can do it too! More importantly, this will be the beginning of someone changing their life or some persons life that they love. Up until now, people have looked at my pictures of food and of myself wondering if it is all for real. Once you hear me speak you will notice the genuine and sincerity in my voice about healing people from these “man made” diseases that are attacking their bodies. I get so excited talking about this Raw Vegan food because I see now how we were “tricked” into eating the SAD diet (Standard American Diet).

The hardest thing for me to overcome when I was changing my diet was to convince myself that I had not been “bamboozled and hoodwinked”! I could not believe that all them “pyramids” they showed me in school on what and how much I should eat were mostly false! I just knew that Cow milk, cheese, and eggs how to be good for me because of the calcium and protein I was receiving from them (yea right….I will explain how we all been duped). Changing ones diet is not something that comes easily for a lot of people. I have heard that it is easier for a person to change their religion……than to change their diet! I changed my diet because I wanted to change my appearance (too heavy) and “feel better”. I had no idea that the diabetes and high blood pressure would be cured. Sadly, a lot of people refuse to change their diets and die an early death. Or they decide to change when they are on their death bed and it is literally too late. Please don’t become one of those victims, make a decision to change your life or your love one life now!

By the way when I detoxed  my body I realized that this Raw food thing was not bad at all. I bought a lot of the food during my 21 day detox from Raw Food restaurants and as with any restaurant it was a little expensive. Then I got curious and cheap at the same time (lol)……..what if I learn how to make my own raw food dishes? Moreover, and make them taste the way I want them to taste? That is what I did and accomplished. Come out and taste my food that heals, transforms, and gives you unparalleled energy. You definitely will not regret it!

See you Saturday!

Many people have asked me, “Is it really necessary to eat organic fruits and vegetables?” I then asked a very simple question, “Would you fix a beautiful salad full of green vegetables, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers etc. that looks like a rainbow full of vegetables………and then spray pesticides all over it before you eat it? That is exactly what is happening when you eat fruit and vegetables that are not organic!

A new report issued by the President’s cancer panel recommends eating organic produce to reduce your risk of getting cancer and other diseases.  Federal researchers found certain types of organic produce can reduce the amount of toxins we consume on a daily basis by as much as 80 percent.

Produce can stay in the field for up to 6 months! All this time everything that it comes in contact with is being soaked up thru the roots, so the pesticides are not just on the outside of the produce. I refuse to believe that people want to eat poison knowingly!

There is a group (EWG) that comes out with a list of produce that is the most pesticide laden and the most pesticide free.  They have come to the conclusion that the following 12 fruits and vegetables hold the most pesticides in 2011.

When conventionally grown, the produce below tested positive for at least 47 different chemicals, with some testing positive for as many as 67 different chemicals.

“Dirty Dozen” List:
•               Apples
•               Celery
•               Peaches
•               Strawberries
•               Domestic blueberries
•               Nectarines
•               Sweet bell peppers
•               Spinach, kale and collard greens
•               Cherries
•               Potatoes
•               Imported grapes
•               Lettuce

The above produce you should try to buy organic whenever possible.

The next group of produce is what we call the “Clean 15” if on a budget it is safer to buy these fruits and vegetables conventionally.

“Clean 15”:
•               Onions
•               Avocados
•               Sweet corn
•               Pineapples
•               Mango
•               Sweet peas
•               Asparagus
•               Kiwi fruit
•               Cabbage
•               Eggplant
•               Cantaloupe
•               Watermelon
•               Grapefruit
•               Sweet potatoes
•               Sweet onions

These fruits and vegetables have little to no traces of pesticides, and therefore safe to eat in non-organic form.  On this list, most of these have skins that you peel or cut away, reducing the amount of chemicals you ingest.  They also have less natural predators and therefore farmers don’t need to use as many pesticides.

I believe that you should buy local first and also buy in season that way you are getting the freshest produce available that does not have to be “shipped” from another country or state. In addition, you can always inquire about how much, if any, pestcides that they (local farmers) use on their produce.

I am so grateful for the training that I received at the Sprout Raw Food Kitchen. Gideon and Jackie Graff taught us a lot about nutrition and how to prepare delicious foods. However, one thing that stood out to me was about how many glasses or how much water should we drink a day.

Most people believe that we should drink at least 8 8ounces of water a day.  Well the truth of the matter is that water by itself is not all that counts toward your hydration. Most people who eat fruit and vegetables such as Vegans and Raw Vegans already consumed a good portion of their water from their diet. So there is no need to drink 8 glasses of water a day.  Another thing is that all liquids contribute to the amount of hydration that your body intakes every day. The Green Smoothies, fruit smoothie, carrot juice, and other drinks all contribute to your “8 glasses” a day. Now you see that you can reach that plateau and beyond very quickly.

Drinking water approximately 30 minutes before your meals can help you to lose weight. A study  published last year in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association,  found that people who drank water before meals ate an average of 75 fewer calories at that meal. This may not seem like much, but if you ate fewer calories at lunch and dinner for the next year, you could lose about 14½ pounds! In addition, being even 1 percent dehydrated can cause a significant drop in metabolism, which can also interfere with weight loss.

One last note. Do not over hydrate yourself. Drinking too much water  can cause a dangerous condition known as hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood), which can cause confusion, irritability and seizures and may even lead to a coma.

Many people do not believe that I once took Diabetes medicine for over 5 years. In addition, I also took high blood pressure medicine for the same amount of time.  I was told that I would not be able to eat any food that had too much sugar or too much salt. I loved food with salt and sugar! So I thought.

My doctor sent me to a class at a hospital here in Atlanta that would teach me how to eat “right” so that I may be able to live with my diabetes. This class was so confusing that I left more confused than when I came to the class. The only thing that I remembered was my plate should consist of a certain amount of carbs, fats, and the meat should be the size of the palm of my hand. What a joke! With all the mathematical analogies about what portion of what food I should eat, I felt like I was back in Calculus class in college !

Let me keep it simple for you. If you eat a plant based diet consisting of raw fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts, you will heal your body of a lot of so called incurable or “medicine for life” diseases. My diabetes has been gone almost 3 years now since I changed my diet to the delicious raw food diet. I call it the delicious raw food because it is. I eat cakes, ice cream, cookies, nuts, and I do not have a problem with my blood sugar or blood pressure. I was told that if I took my medicine, I would be able to live a long and fruitful life. What a joke. I know people who are still taking medicine and they are miserable and going broke from the expense of the medicine every month. I am now living without medicine and my body is diabetic FREE. I prepare and eat the most delicious food that is available. Don’t take my word for it…..check out my recipe book and you will see and taste for yourself.

A transformation came over me and I refused to believe the lie…..that we were meant to eat “dead” food. That we were meant to eat meat and potatoes. I believe we were “hoodwinked and bamboozled” into eating cooked food which depleted all the  nutrients in the food. This is my belief. Maybe you are not there yet….maybe you don’t care. I am just here to tell you that you can live a long fruitful life by changing your diet to a plant based raw and living food diet. Do your research and see if raw and living food can heal your body and help you to eliminate unwanted weight while eating delicious food! Believe me when I tell you that it is well worth it.

Hello Family,

I have been getting more and more education on the subject of Raw and Living Foods. I am now pleased to say that I am now a CERTIFIED RAW FOOD CHEF! Along with that title is not just words but extensive education that has expanded my mind so much in the discipline of Raw and Living Foods. I will attempt to share with you what I have learned and how it may be able to help you and your love ones. Here we go.

Every morning I drink my Greens. I have found out that a Green drink every morning can do wonders for your body and health. The earth is filled with Greens everywhere we go. There is green leaves, grass, plants etc. and of course the rally cry “Go Green”! In her book, “Green Smoothie Revolution” Victoria Boutenko speaks about the benefits of drinking greens. One of the most important vitamins that most of us lack is Vitamin K. Leafy greens are filled with Vitamin K. According to http://www.wiki.answers.com Vitamin K has been linked to:

Skin Cancer

heavy menstrual bleeding

liver cancer

easy bruising

Vitamin K deficiency has also been linked to the following birth defects:

shortened fingers

cupped ears

flat nasal bridges

mental retardation

neural tube defects

underdevelopment of the nose, mouth, and mid-face

Greens leaves are abundant in this very important vitamin.

In addition, there are a lot of other vitamins that are abundant in greens, such as vitamins a, b, c and d. So as you can see greens are full with vitamins and nutrients.

In my Raw Food chef class, we made approximately on average 15 recipes a day. We ate everything that we made and I still lost weight during the 3 weeks of training. And no I did not exercise. I believe it was related to the green drinks that I drank everyday throughout the day along with of course the raw food that we were consuming.  When the training ended I went home and wanted to do a 1 week fast on just green drinks. However, I was so excited to start making recipes that the “fast” lasted only 2 days. In that 2 day  period….get this…….I HAD LOST 7 POUNDS!!! Green drinks is a powerful tool in helping you to lose weight and come alive! I had so much energy it was unbelievable! People I am telling you here and now…….DRINK GREEN SMOOTHIES!!! Below is some more pertinent information on why to DRINK green leafy vegetables.

Greens are high in cellulose, which makes them difficult for the digestive system to break down. For this reason you have to chew your greens thoroughly in order for them to digest properly. The other way for greens to digest easily is by being mixed with stomach acid (hydrochloric acid). Many people unfortunately do not have normal levels of hydrochloric acid in their stomachs due to  mineral deficiencies.

People who cannot chew their food thoroughly and who have low hydrochloric acid eventually stop enjoying greens and develop a distaste for them. One note here: the more processed food you eat, they more deficient you become in nutrients, thus the less likely you are to create stomach acid! Now you know one  reason that processed food is not good for you.

For me, I like to blend my greens instead of juicing my greens. The reason is when I blend my greens I get a lot of fiber from it and the necessary antioxidants that come along with it. Toxins build up in our bodies, especially in the colon, and fiber cleans it out. Fiber helps the body in eliminating  and the more you eliminate, the greater the ability for your body to absorb nutrients, thus improving digestion. Green smoothies are a complete food so you can substitute it for a meal. When you juice your greens you have to drink it right away because it begins to lose its nutritional value. However, when you blend your greens it keeps its nutritional value up to 3 days in the refrigerator. That is a another advantage of blending your greens over juicing your greens. So drink your green smoothie every day to keep the doctor away!!!

My Favorite Raw Food Breakfast.

I am always asked; “what do you eat as a Raw Vegan”? First, it is not like I eat foods that you have never heard of. I eat plant based foods and I use different combinations of plant based foods to make some dishes. For the next week, I am going to tell you  about some of the food that I eat on a daily basis starting with breakfast. In addition, I want to give you some of the nutritional values and benefits of the food that I eat on a regular basis.

Watermelon is one of my favorite foods to eat, especially during the summer months when it is plentiful. Watermelon is related to the family of cucurbitaceae of the genus: citrullus, and is related to the other plants like cantaloupe, squash and pumpkin that grow as vines on the ground. Watermelon is the most nutritional fruit per calorie of common foods. It is loaded with anti-oxidants  lycopene, beta carotene and vitamin C.  Watermelon is extremely high in lycopene, thus its red or pink color of the pulp. The Worlds’ Healthiest Foods website states “… lycopene has been repeatedly studied in humans and found to be protective against a growing list of cancers. These cancers now include prostate cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancers.” Beta Carotene is associated with decreased risk of cardio-vascular disease and oral cavity and lung cancers. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious diseases and scavenge harmful oxygen free radicals. Also, watermelon is filled with potassium and magnesium. Potassium is important for cardiovascular health and brain health and helps the kidneys eliminate kidney stone forming calcium as well as assists with the body’s fluid retention. Magnesium is considered the master mineral. It is involved with over 300 cellular metabolic functions.  Magnesium deficiencies are directly or indirectly related to most of our population’s poor health issues. Some  symptoms of magnesium deficiencies are irritability, tension, sleep disorders, and muscular cramping. In addition to heart attacks and other serious illnesses.

One side note for the men reading this article, watermelon has been known to act as a natural viagra. Science Daily reported; “In watermelons,…….. its phyto-nutrients – citrulline – whose beneficial functions are now being unraveled. Among them is the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does.”

Buying organic watermelon is scarce and if you find it very expensive. While in Las Vegas last year I found some organic watermelons…….I grab one and took it to the counter…..a whooping $65 for a  watermelon! Watermelons are not on the “Dirty Dozen” list which is a list of the most heavily pesticide sprayed  produce. As a matter of fact, watermelon is on the list of the 15  cleanest non-organic produce that has very little pesticide if any. I always buy “seeded” watermelon. I don’t eat fruit that does not have seeds, all fruit is supposed to have seeds so I do not eat seedless watermelons. You should keep watermelons at room temperature. It should not be refrigerated until you cut it and then brought back to room temperature before you eat it because that maximizes its phyto-nutrient capacity.

So as you can see watermelon is a very important food and it tastes great. That is one of the main reasons why I eat so much of it. I also want to mention that other foods I eat for breakfast are my Raw Raspberry Banana Pancakes, Raw Oatmeal Cinnamon and Raisin with Almond Mlyk, various Green Smoothies and Organic Fruit Salad just to name a few. Eating Raw is so beneficial that I am making it my personal mission to educate and enlighten people so that they may rid their bodies of diseases naturally and lose excess weight to live a wholesome and healthy life!

If you would like to know how to prepare some of the items that I eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner purchase my ebook Hallelujah for Rawelujah at http://www.jefftherawfoodchef.com
